Donald and Lily’s Corner

On one of my visits to Malacca recently, I decided to pay this eatery a visit after hearing so much about it over the Internet.

Donald and Lily’s is located at Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock, which is within walking distance from The Stadhuys and Jonker Street (Jalan Hang Jebat). The eatery itself is not quite established, so you might want to pay extra attention when looking for it.

It’s a well decorated place too

Apparently, Donald and Lily’s Corner is reportedly famous for its nyonya laksa and cendol. Besides, they also serve other food such as nasi lemak and so on. On that day, we ordered their famous nyonya laksa, pongteh chicken rice, tau kua (rojak) and of course, cendol.

Nyonya laksa actually looks like curry mee and it doesn’t look like laksa which we normally eat. I was kinda surprised because I expected something sour and spicy. While the curry itself looks spicy, well I can assure you the spiciness is just appropriate. Of course you can add more curry paste to suit your taste. In my opinion especially when I’m from Northern states, to say nyonya laksa is good is a bit over-rated. Well, it is up to you.

Pongteh chicken rice is another specialty served by Donald and Lily’s. The chicken meat is quite tender (which is good) and served together with gravy and potato. The gravy is thick but a bit oily to my liking.

Tau kua or rojak served here is completely different from what we always have back in KL or Ipoh or even Penang. Here, they use bean curd (which is sliced into smaller pieces), cucumber and pineapple which is topped with rojak sauce. The sauce itself isn’t very thick and the crushed peanuts do the trick.

Last but not least, it’s always a must to have cendol when you’re in Malacca. At Donald and Lily’s Corner, you can have it too. I particularly like their cendol as compared to Jonker88 as they’re not too sweet. The amount of gula melaka is just perfect to taste. Serving wise, Jonker88 serves bigger bowl of cendol with large dose of gula melaka. So, it’s really up to us patrons to decide which to go.

Donald and Lily’s Corner is not just a normal food establishment. Remember to pay it a visit when you’re in Malacca.
